Bio

Identity resolution

Case C (thin) → resolved to effectively Case A. Seed gave one IG handle + one press descriptor. Verification chain: the IG handle’s bio links theodorabyrne.com; that site’s About page matches the Nialler9 descriptor’s profession (arranger, choir/ensemble founder) and Irish context; independent surfaces — IMRO (2021), Other Voices artist page, BIMM Berlin faculty page, National Concert Hall Dublin IG (2026-05-05) — all describe the same person: Irish session keyboardist/vocalist/arranger, founder of The Theodora Byrne Ensemble, now Berlin-based. Her own IG (2026-06-24) announces PEOPLE Festival participation, closing the loop on the seed’s one authoritative fact. Same-name candidates excluded: a “Theodora BYRNE” ResearchGate profile at TU Dublin Conservatory of Music and Drama surfaced in search — plausibly the same person given the field, but never connected by any source to the Ensemble or Berlin, so treated as unresolved-adjacent and not used for claims. No conflicting same-name musician found.

One press-vs-self tension worth keeping: Nialler9 calls her a composer; her own surfaces never do. She self-describes exclusively as arranger (“I don’t want to detract from the existing beauty of a song I’m working on, I always hope to elevate it in subtle ways” — IMRO). Self-presentation is canonical → this dossier says arranger.

Practice Summary

Threads they care about

1. Berlin is home — PEOPLE is her home-city festival

Press frames her as a “Dublin composer” (Nialler9), but her own site, IG bio, and BIMM Berlin faculty page all place her in Berlin.

She has played Berlin’s Mercedes-Benz Arena† (own site) and teaches at BIMM Berlin. The “visiting Irish artist” is a local.

Her PEOPLE announcement reel (“Very excited to be heading to PEOPLE Festival in Berlin this autumn…”), Instagram, 2026-06-24.

2. A choir made of fifty separate rooms

The Ensemble was “established as a virtual group in 2020… as a response to the stoppage of live singing” (theodorabyrne.com/arrangement): 50+ singers of mixed backgrounds record alone, and she stitches the takes into one performance (Other Voices, IMRO).

The visual form of this — a lattice of small windows, each holding one singer — is the most distinctive image in her practice.

“Maria Kelly featuring The Theodora Byrne Ensemble” (photo by Ror Conaty) — the choir in one room rather than fifty, theodorabyrne.com/photos.

3. Arranging as finding the gaps — her exact words

“I looked for the spaces where voices could be complementary to what was already there… I always hope to elevate it in subtle ways… because it repeats over and over, I saw an opportunity to slowly interweave the choir into the music, creating a gradual dynamic build-up to the last chorus.” (IMRO, 2021-06-09.)

Negative space is literally her method — a gift to a room designer.

No image: the IMRO page’s photo is a third-party press image; nothing self-presented carries this thread.

4. “Professional musician, amateur human cannonball”

Her own IG bio, verbatim. The one joke she leads with. (Self-stated, retrieved 2026-08-18.)

No image: a bio line has no natural picture.

5. SIRENS, this autumn — the recent project

The Theodora Byrne Trio tours SIRENS “hosted by Lisa Hannigan” (honoring the late Eoin French/Talos): Inis Oírr Sept 24 → Dublin → Cork → Cardiff → London → San Sebastián Oct 18, with SIRENS also at NCH Dublin’s Tradition Now (Sept 24–26) and a PEOPLE/Funkhaus SIRENS show Oct 11. The tour opens on an Aran island and threads straight through the PEOPLE window.

Confirmed: BroadwayWorld 2026-08-11 + National Concert Hall IG 2026-05-05. Note: the Berlin Oct 11 bill as summarized lists Hannigan/McMahon/Bergman “and special guests” without naming the Trio — her PEOPLE participation is separately confirmed by her own announcement.

No image: the SIRENS artwork exists only on third-party pages (NCH, BroadwayWorld); no self-presented post found.

Medium & Materials

Aesthetic Vocabulary

“The spaces where voices could be complementary” · “elevate it in subtle ways” · “slowly interweave the choir” · “gradual dynamic build-up” — her own account of arranging, from the IMRO 2021 interview. Gaps, subtlety, and slow accumulation are the working method; the room keeps its gaps.

“Lots of trial and error, but it’s fascinating” · “songs that spark a musical idea in my imagination” — the process side of the same interview (IMRO 2021).

Caption register: “creative heads,” “let’s goooo,” recurring ⚡️ lightning bolt (IG 2026-06-24, IG 2026-07-05).

“Professional musician, amateur human cannonball” (IG bio). The self-deprecating joke she leads with.

Sound materials (not paintable — stays here): massed mixed voices assembled from solo bedroom takes; five-part vocal stacks laid over an existing song’s repeating guitar figure; indie-folk songcraft (Bell X1, Hannigan, Wallis Bird) swelling into choral texture; arena pop by night, community singing by lineage (MA in Community Music).

Inferred (labeled): a scale-whiplash practice — 17,000-seat arena to fifty bedrooms to a three-voice trio on an Aran island; warmth with self-deprecation; craft that hides itself inside other people’s songs.

Materials & Textures

Spatial Signatures

Studio Design Brief

Visual anchor

The lattice-of-singers screen resting on the grand piano — fifty small lit windows, one voice each, facing one large quiet room.

Mood

Subtle elevation; interwoven; patient build-up. Warm human material under cool clear light — nothing showy, everything placed.

Density

Moderate — she is an arranger who hunts gaps, so the room keeps its gaps. Anything added is there to “not detract from the existing beauty.”

Surprise element

The scale whiplash made spatial — an arena-scale flight case parked beside a bedroom-scale voice memo; or the PEOPLE poster leaning where a gold disc would go. (Room text only, tagged: the human-cannonball cannon.)

Negative space

Upper half of the room stays open air — the space where the voices go. Bare parquet foreground for UI overlays.

Sketch Brief

The content half of a draft-status sketch prompt; the style half lives with the art director and is joined at assembly. Inventory-bound and thread-tied; no texture, palette, or lighting guesses. All of it is a recommendation — the artist and the art director change anything.

In the sketch — ranked, up to four, each naming its thread

  1. A grand piano with a laptop on its closed lid glowing with a grid of fifty small video windows, one per remote singer — thread 2 (a choir made of fifty separate rooms).
  2. Empty choir risers curving across the back of the room, with a wide open gap of floor between them and the piano — thread 3 (arranging as finding the gaps).
  3. A PEOPLE Festival 10–11 Oct 2026 poster leaning against the far wall — thread 1 (Berlin is home; her own announcement reel).

Left open for the artist — what the sketch deliberately leaves blank

Self-stated visual importances — only what they have said matters, with the link

For the art director — their own visual vocabulary, as hints

Content prompt — about 45 words, 2–4 objects, no people, no camera

A grand piano on bare parquet, a laptop on its closed lid glowing with a grid of fifty small video windows. Behind it, empty choir risers curve across the room, a wide gap of floor between. A festival poster leans against the far wall.

Room Descriptions

  1. Signature — A grand piano under cool window light. On its lid a screen glows: fifty small windows, one singer in each, mid-breath. When the chord lands, all fifty rooms become this one — you feel it in the floor. Penciled on the score: leave space here.
  2. Working — Score pages fan across the piano, five vocal lines erased and rewritten. Headphones leak one looping guitar figure. She’s hunting the gaps where voices slip in without disturbing what’s already beautiful. The eraser crumbs smell of a long afternoon.
  3. Unexpected — Empty choir risers wait in a curve — and facing them, a small ringmaster-red circus cannon aimed at the conductor’s spot. Her bio: professional musician, amateur human cannonball. Lean closer: the cannon’s mouth is stuffed with sheet music. [cannon: invented from her own bio joke]
  4. Atmospheric — Almost nothing here. October light down tall studio glass, one held chord dissolving into wood-paneled reverb, dust drifting like slow notes. Down the corridor, many voices practice one soft word, over and over.
  5. The Encounter — The piano bench is still warm. A lightning-bolt sticker glints on a flight case big enough to sleep in; a propped phone shows a paused call — fifty singers mid-wave. Chalked by the door: summer shows, let’s goooo ⚡. She’s back in one minute. [chalk note: invented, wording from her own caption]

Image Prompt Variants

Variant A — Sparse

Objects — 3 (grand piano · lattice-of-singers screen on its lid · single pencil-marked score page on the music desk)

Prompt — A grand piano stands alone on bare parquet in a large wood-paneled recording studio. On the closed lid, a laptop screen glows with a grid of fifty small lit rectangles, each a different tiny room. One score page on the music desk carries light pencil markings. The rest of the room is open air and receding floor.

Palette — warm black, birch, screen blue-white, paper cream

Lighting — cool northern daylight from tall windows at left, soft-edged and silvery, cooler than the screen’s glow so the lattice reads as the warmest thing in the room.

Negative space — entire upper half open; right third of floor empty, receding to soft shadow.

Variant B — Curated

Objects — 6 (empty choir risers · stage keyboard on stand · open flight case · headphones on the keyboard · fanned score pages on a riser step · PEOPLE 10–11 Oct 2026 poster leaning on the wall)

Prompt — Choir risers curve across the back of a paneled studio, empty. Front-left, a stage keyboard waits with headphones hooked over its end; its flight case yawns open beside it, ribbed black with steel corners. Score pages fan down one riser step. Against the far wall leans a festival poster. Riser tops stay bare; the center floor between keyboard and risers is open.

Palette — charcoal, honey wood, matte black, poster ochre

Lighting — one warm practical from the riser side against cool ambient daylight, low contrast, late-afternoon temperature.

Negative space — center floor fully open (~a third of frame); wall above the risers bare.

Variant C — Layered

Objects — 9 in 3 zones

Prompt — Zone one, foreground right: an arranging desk — score pages, pencils, eraser crumbs, and a laptop showing the fifty-window singer lattice. Zone two, mid-left: performance corner — grand piano with a lightning-bolt sticker on a flight case parked at its side. Zone three, background: tall studio window with pale autumn light, the PEOPLE poster and empty risers half in shadow beneath it. Each zone separated by stretches of bare parquet.

Palette — graphite, birch, screen glow, cold sky gray

Lighting — daylight enters from the deep background window and falls off toward the foreground desk, where the laptop lattice becomes the brightest point — the room darkens toward the viewer.

Negative space — diagonal corridor of empty floor from foreground left to the window, ~30% of frame.

Process self-report

Sources: 9 retrieved ok across 3 ladder rungs; 1 failed (journalofmusic 403, redundant); Instagram wall cleared with playwright-iso — og-tag captions on logged-out post pages proved the cheapest caption source. Wall-clock: ~12 minutes. Threads they care about: 5 found (Berlin-is-home; fifty-rooms choir; gaps-as-method in her own words; human-cannonball bio; SIRENS autumn tour) — an unusually rich haul for a nominal thin case; identity resolved from C to effectively A within two searches because she keeps a plain Weebly site with her whole CV on it. Friction with the skill itself: (1) The seed’s press descriptor (“composer”) conflicted with self-presentation (“arranger”) — the skill’s Self-stated-is-canonical rule resolved it cleanly, but the output format has no natural home for press-vs-self tension; I put it in Identity resolution. (2) The “lattice of singer windows” object sits awkwardly between confirmed and †def — it is the documented form of a confirmed practice but I never watched a video frame; a “form-of-confirmed-practice” rung would name this. (3) WebFetch’s summarizer asserted the Trio’s absence from the Berlin bill — a negative claim from a summarization layer; I ledgered it as contested rather than asserting either way, but the skill’s snippet-discipline rule speaks only to positive claims.
