Bio
- Vocalist, guitarist, and composer; frontman of Efterklang — a Danish trio of “3 childhood friends,” self-stated (efterklang.net/about).
- Also in the quartet Liima (his Bandcamp profile); debut solo album Better Way, City Slang, Jan 9 2021 (Bandcamp credits, Under the Radar).
- Based in Lisbon, Portugal “for several years” — confirmed across the Under the Radar press announcement, the Le Guess Who bio, and the Bandcamp credits’ place-names.
- Platforms: efterklang.net · casperclausen.bandcamp.com · City Slang (label; site redirects to shop, see Retrieval).
- Confirmed PEOPLE Festival 2026 participant — festival roster seed, authoritative for this fact; listed on peoplefestival.berlin/participants.
Practice Summary
- Casper Clausen fronts a band that treats music as an open door: Efterklang flew to Skopje in 2023, handed out flyers, and assembled a band of Macedonian strangers in one week to play beneath the Makedonium monument (efterklang.net/the-makedonium-band).
- Solo, he is the opposite pole of the same instinct — alone in a small studio by the river in Cacilhas (Lisbon), turning on machines and drifting (Le Guess Who bio, Under the Radar press quotes).
- The solo sound: spacious songs of organs, synths, YouTube samples, and field recordings over krautrock grooves (Le Guess Who bio).
- Both modes are about belonging; his bandmate says Casper’s version of it “is tied to something nomadic” (Rasmus Stolberg, efterklang.net/about).
Threads they care about
1. The Makedonium Band
In 2023 the trio landed in Skopje “with little else planned,” distributed flyers to recruit local musicians, and in one week built a band (theremin, kaval, gajda, oud, tambura, ukulele, a youth female choir) for a concert in front of North Macedonia’s “architecturally wild” Makedonium monument.
Documentary by Andreas Johnsen, festival premiere CPH:DOX 2024, worldwide VOD premiere Nov 21 2025 — their newest released artifact. In the room, this is the stack of photocopied flyers on the table and the guest instruments leaning together (the surprise element below).
Self-stated: efterklang.net/about + efterklang.net/the-makedonium-band, incl. full band credits.
2. The river studio
Better Way was “Recorded by Casper Clausen in Olho de Boi and Hiriketiya, Sri Lanka,” i.e. a small studio by the river in Cacilhas, across the Tagus from Lisbon; mix & production “by Sonic Boom & Casper Clausen in the hills of Sintra.”
His method, in his words: “I’d go to my studio every day, turn on some machines and find some sounds that I like and let my mind drift away. I would always leave one song behind every day.” This is the room’s visual anchor — the river window over a table of powered-on machines.
Self-stated: Bandcamp credits; Le Guess Who bio; Under the Radar press quotes.
3. Sock Society & audience choirs
Efterklang runs a membership that mails “4 fun and beautiful pairs of socks every year,” and recruits “cool and sweet people” from each city to form local audience choirs that join the band on stage.
Community as craft, down to the feet — in the room, a scatter of bright wool socks on the sill.
Self-stated: band Instagram posts embedded on efterklang.net.
4. Place-history with Funkhaus/PEOPLE
Efterklang played PEOPLE 2018 at Funkhaus Berlin (setlist.fm: 2:20 pm slot, Funkhaus Berlin †).
Berlin keeps recurring in Casper’s story: his Sonic Boom collaboration began with hearing Spacemen 3’s “Big City” “in Berlin at 8mm bar years ago” (his own press quote); summer 2026 Efterklang supported Beirut at Tempodrom Berlin (sold out; Beirut guests on their song “Getting Reminders” — efterklang.net news, 2026-03-27).
A Liima writing residency at the Michelberger Hotel preceded Michelberger Music 2016 at Funkhaus — PEOPLE’s precursor — but this rests on search snippets only (†, unverified at origin).
No image: the natural picture here (the 2018 Funkhaus slot) exists only on third-party pages; nothing self-presented found.
Medium & Materials
- Voice (“hypnotising vocals” — Le Guess Who bio) and guitar (Makedonium Band credits: “Casper Clausen: vocal, guitar”). (Confirmed)
- Organs, synths, YouTube samples, field recordings; “spacious songs, guided by krautrock grooves.” (Self-stated via Le Guess Who program bio, 2019)
- Studio machines run daily; “I would always leave one song behind every day.” (Self-stated, press quote via Under the Radar)
- Band-scale collaboration hardware: 7th album Things We Have In Common (Sep 27 2024) with Tatu Rönkkö (drums), Hector Tosta (guitar), Mabe Fratti (cello/voice), mixer Francesco Donadello, and the South Denmark Girls’ Choir. (Self-stated, efterklang.net/about)
- Better Way pressed “on eco-friendly recycled vinyl! Every record is unique and comes with different coloring!” (Self-stated, Bandcamp merch listing)
Aesthetic Vocabulary
Their own words first:
- “A band in flux” · “an open family with room for new ideas, radical shifts, and varying collaborators” (album bio, efterklang.net/about)
- “Things We Have In Common” is about “collective spirituality and belonging” (ibid.)
- “Drifting with the intuition and stream of thought … music … in flux, balancing between sound collages and songwriting” (Le Guess Who bio)
- “Like a Kaleidoscope with interchangeable lenses, each section of the song a different pallet of colors and shapes” (Casper on “Used to Think”, press quote)
- “Sparkling, light-filled explorations touching on elements of krautrock, avant-pop and progressive rock” (press description of Better Way)
- Sound materials (not paintable — they live here): YouTube samples over krautrock pulse; field recordings; organ drones; a girls’ choir in church acoustics.
- Inferred (labeled): generosity as method — every project builds a bigger “we” (audience choirs, a recruited Macedonian band, socks by subscription).
- Inferred (labeled): the solo work is the deliberate counterweight — one person and machines by a river.

Studio Design Brief
Visual anchor
The river window — Tagus water light falling across a small table of powered-on organs and synths (sourced: Cacilhas river studio).
Mood
Drifting, light-filled, communal-generous; sparkling rather than moody.
Density
Moderate — a solo room with traces of many hands. The practice is one person and machines, but every Efterklang project pulls strangers in; the room should hold both.
Surprise element
A stack of photocopied flyers inviting whoever finds one to join the band — plus a scatter of bright wool socks (threads 1 & 3 they care about, made spatial).
Negative space
The river outside the window and the bare wall above the table — the upper third stays open water-light; UI overlays live there.
Sketch Brief
The content half of a draft-status sketch prompt; the style half lives with the art director and is joined at assembly. Inventory-bound and thread-tied; no texture, palette, or lighting guesses. All of it is a recommendation — the artist and the art director change anything.
In the sketch — ranked, up to four, each naming its thread
- A small table of powered-on organs and synths before a single window full of river water — thread 2 (the Cacilhas river studio).
- A stack of photocopied flyers on the table, inviting whoever finds one to join the band — thread 1 (the Makedonium Band).
- Bright patterned wool socks, several pairs, on the sill — thread 3 (Sock Society).
- Guest instruments leaning together — kaval, oud, tambura — thread 1 (Makedonium Band credits).
Left open for the artist — what the sketch deliberately leaves blank
- The walls · what is on the shelves · the far half of the room · whether the window is open · whether the river is the Tagus or the next one.
Self-stated visual importances — only what they have said matters, with the link
- None recorded in this dossier. The river window is sourced as a spatial signature (Le Guess Who bio), not as a stated visual preference.
For the art director — their own visual vocabulary, as hints
- “Kaleidoscope with interchangeable lenses” (press quote) · “drifting with the intuition and stream of thought” (Le Guess Who bio) · “a band in flux” (efterklang.net/about).
Content prompt — about 45 words, 2–4 objects, no people, no camera
A small tabletop organ and a synth, switched on, before a window full of wide river water. Beside them, a stack of photocopied flyers recruiting band members. On the sill, three pairs of bright patterned wool socks.
Room Descriptions
- Signature — A little room by the river: organs hum, warm as bread, and Tagus light shivers on the ceiling. A ferry horn drifts in [invented, tagged]. One song was left behind here yesterday; you can almost still hear it.
- Working — Machines on, tape rolling. A synth drone thickens the air while field recordings of somewhere else hiss underneath. Flyers on the table read JOIN THE BAND — take one, the ink smells fresh [invented, tagged].
- Unexpected — Socks. Four bright wool pairs on a line by the window [drying line invented, tagged], mail-order joy from a band that knits its audience in. Below them, a kaval and an oud lean together like old friends from Skopje.
- Atmospheric — Water light everywhere, moving. The room smells of warm electronics and river air. One organ chord holds, patient as a tide, and the far shore glitters where Lisbon waits.
- The Encounter — The chair is pushed back, still warm. A marbled vinyl spins its last groove; a half-written flyer says JOIN — the pen lies uncapped [invented, tagged]. Whoever lives here has just gone to find more people.
Image Prompt Variants
Variant A — Sparse
Objects — 3 (organ, flyer stack, window)
Prompt — A small tabletop organ, switched on, indicator lamps glowing, on a plain wooden table before a single window full of wide river water; one neat stack of photocopied flyers beside it. Nothing else on the table; the floor is bare boards. Late-morning light comes low off the river through the window, cool silver-blue, scattering moving water reflections across the ceiling. First notice: the glowing organ; second pull: the river filling the window; slow reveal: the topmost flyer’s hand-lettering.
Palette — silver-blue, pale wood, warm lamp-amber, paper white
Lighting — low horizontal river light from the window, cool and shimmering, with small warm points from the organ’s lamps
Negative space — the upper third is open water and sky through glass; the right half of the table stays empty.
Variant B — Curated
Objects — 5 (organ + synth pair, guitar, marbled LP, sock pairs, window)
Prompt — The river window again, but the room now shows its guests: an organ and a small synth side by side with cables neatly coiled, an electric guitar leaning in the corner, a marbled recycled-vinyl LP propped face-out on a shelf, and two pairs of bright patterned wool socks folded on the sill. Surfaces between objects stay bare. Afternoon sun angles warmer now, honey-toned through the window, laying long soft shadows toward the door. First notice: the vinyl’s unrepeatable color swirl; second pull: the socks on the sill; slow reveal: the guitar in shadow.
Palette — honey, marbled multicolour, wool-bright reds and blues, dusty floorboard brown
Lighting — warm slanting late-afternoon window light, soft-edged, amber temperature, shadows long and gentle
Negative space — the wall above the shelf and the middle of the floor remain empty; roughly a third of the frame.
Variant C — Layered
Objects — 8 in three zones
Prompt — Zone one, by the window: the organ and synth table with a stack of flyers, river light on their keys. Zone two, the collaboration corner: kaval, tambura and oud resting together against a whitewashed wall whose curve echoes poured concrete, with choir sheet music pinned above them. Zone three, near the door: a concert poster and a small pile of wool socks on a stool. Dusk light: the window goes deep blue while the machines’ small lamps take over, points of warm amber in a cooling room. First notice: the lamplit keys; second pull: the leaning Balkan instruments; slow reveal: the pinned sheet music’s pencil marks.
Palette — dusk blue, amber lamp-glow, instrument-wood browns, whitewash
Lighting — fading blue window light crossed with warm pinpoint machine lamps, low contrast, cool-to-warm gradient across the room
Negative space — the ceiling and the center of the floor between zones stay open; the room still breathes.
Square (1:1), 2000–4000px. Inventory-only. No people.
Identity resolution
Case A — rich seed. Roster row supplies name + efterklang.net + “Efterklang (frontman)”; efterklang.net/about names Casper Clausen as one of the trio, and his solo surfaces (Bandcamp, City Slang, Under the Radar, Le Guess Who) all bind the same person. Current surface confirmed live: efterklang.net news runs through May 2026. (Note: cellist Gaspar Claus appears on the PEOPLE 2018 bill — a different artist, not a spelling variant of this subject; excluded.)

Process self-report
- Sources: 6 ok on artist-owned surfaces, 3 ok third-party, 7 failed/thin/walled (ledger above). Casper’s personal Instagram unreachable logged-out at all three ladder rungs; his personal domain doesn’t exist — his self-presentation runs through efterklang.net and Bandcamp, which were rich.
- Wall-clock: ~12 minutes of fetching/verification.
- Threads they care about: 4 found (Makedonium one-week band; river studio + leave-a-song method; Sock Society/audience choirs; Funkhaus 2018 + recurring Berlin thread).
- Snippet trap caught: search summary asserted “Efterklang at PEOPLE 2018” — origin check at setlist.fm confirmed it, but the same page carries Gaspar Claus, a near-collision name that a lazier pass could have conflated with Casper Clausen. The skill’s “re-verify snippets at the originating page” rule earned its keep here.
- Friction with the skill itself: (1) The recency directive wants “last ~12 months of posts,” but the artist’s freshest personal surface (Instagram) is exactly the one hardest to reach logged-out — the band site’s embedded IG mirror only carries older posts, so recency for the person (vs. the band) rests on band-site news. A note in the skill on using a band/label site’s IG embeds as a sanctioned fallback mirror would help. (2) The Michelberger-2016 place-history lead is attractive but died at origin (dead blog archive) — the skill could say explicitly whether a dead-origin † may appear in Threads they care about with a warning label (I included it with “do not carry”).
- Retrofit to v4.1, 2026-09-15: format pass only — links, bullets, images (3 pulled), Sketch Brief; research unchanged.
- Reshaped to v4.2, 2026-09-15: reading order and paragraphing only.
Ground-truth addendum (editor, 2026-08-18 — from panipedia substrate, not this run)
Two facts both automated runs missed, from the hand-written profile (wiki/entities/people-festival.md §5): Efterklang recorded Plumage (2021) at Funkhaus itself, and Piramida (2012) was recorded in the abandoned Soviet mining town of Pyramiden, Svalbard — the band makes place-as-instrument records. Prime room material; sourced from panipedia, cite before outward use.
